A Spacelab Utilization Program proposal has been submitted concerning the observation of extended regions of XUV emission in the Galaxy. The spectral region will be from about 15 to 250 A. A primary aim of the experiment will be to map the so-called 'radio loops', which are supposed to consist of supernova remnants in the radiation stage. The instrument will consist of an X-ray mirror with imaging capability and two types of image detectors in the focus. The X-ray optics includes a Kirkpatrick-Baez telescope in a configuration providing an angular resolution of better than 15 arc minutes in a field of view of 3 deg. The two image detectors are a location-sensitive proportional counter with ultrathin plastic inlet window and a location-sensitive gas scintillation counter with plastic inlet window for detection up to 150 A.
