We report on a recently discovered software bug in the standard ROSAT processing for the HRI. The bug causes the times associated with each aspect record to be wrong. This introduces a positional error for each event. In the worst case, the effective Point Response Function is broadened by an equivalent Gaussian with FWHM of order 3" (i.e. added in quadrature to the inherent PRF of the detector). Corrected data can thus have a PRF approximately 20% smaller than uncorrected data. We show examples and discuss the effects of the bug on source parameters derived from standard processing.
