Inspection of recent radio-interferometer results and emission-line
profiles indicates that NGC 1275 has a double nucleus. Its mass would
then be approximately 300 million solar masses. The fact that the
nucleus may be double precludes several hypotheses that have been
proposed for the nature of active nuclei and quasars.
