We report on a long BeppoSAX observation of the BL Lac MRK421 performed from the 29th of April to the 5th of May 1997. The source displays variability on a timescale of ~ 1 day. The spectrum apperars to harden as the source becomes brighter. The time average spectrum is well fitted by a broken power-law with a break energy of 1 keV. Intensity resolved spectral analysis shows that the break-energy, does not change. In the low intensisty state, at high energies (> 10 keV), the source shows evidence of a spectral hardening, most likely due to an inverse-Compton component.
