It is shown that small differences between the mean wavelengths of the narrow and wide filters of sets used to measure beta indexes give rise to important color effects. Spurious results are obtained for reddened stars if color corrections are not taken into account. The bulk of the difference between the calibration curves usually obtained separately for B and A-F stars is also due to the color effect.
