The Sb spiral galaxy NGC 931 is shown to be a type 1 Seyfert and probably the identification of the X-ray source 4U0223+31. A smaller companion galaxy with a similar redshift lies about 10 kpc to the north of NGC 931 and exhibits strong, highly tilted, but much narrower emission lines. The activity in the companion may be a consequence of gravitational interaction with the Seyfert.
