An observational test of quasar variability due to microlensing is proposed. The light curve variation near the caustic is described by a relation depending on the wavelength and the type of the caustic singularity. The numerical simulation of the caustic network formed by the stars of the lensing galaxy is supplemented by the analysis of diffraction effects. The results are based on the general consideration of singularities of the Lagrangian mappings, as is the derivation of the three-dimensional generalization of the Zeldovich "pancakes" theory.
