We mapped J = 1 - 0 HCO(+) and (13)CO emission over a 16 arcmin (30 pc ) region around the core of W43, a distant (7 kpc ), giant H II region in the galactic plane at l = 30.8 deg. There is about 106 solar mass of molecular material present over the 80-107 km/s velocity range associated with the nebula. The structure of the molecular gas around the H II region is characterized by a North-South front-back separation and by a series of at least 4 shells or loops having characteristic sizes of 5-15 pc and 5-15 km/s line splittings. The molecular gas both envelopes and is disturbed by the star formation in W43.
