Rocket-borne measurements of positive ion composition at mesospheric altitudes were made at mid- and high-latitude sites during summer daytime conditions with quadrupole mass spectrometers (Goldberg and Witt, 1977). The two measurements give the same type of ions below about 80 km, above which height and specially between 80-86 km, the high-latitude data are strikingly different from those of mid-latitude. The mid-latitude results have been theoretically reproduced using a detailed positive ion-chemical scheme and the implications of which have already been presented (Chakrabarty et al., 1978). In this paper, an attempt has been made to reproduce the high-latitude observations in the same manner in which the mid-latitude values have been reproduced in the altitude region where two measurements differ considerably. It is found that the high-latitude mesopause is colder by 10 K, having larger H2O and NO densities by factors of 10 and 5, respectively from that observed at mid-latitudes.
