NGC 520 has been considered by some to be a single exploding galaxy and by others to be a pair of galaxies undergoing a close tidal interaction. This paper presents new spectroscopic and photographic observations relevant to the interpretation of the system. The velocity field is consistent with a geometry of two almost superposed disks, both viewed nearly edge-on and rotating so that their northwesterly ends approach us relative to the center of mass. A new deep photograph shows a hitherto undetected faint, long plume or tail. Although not conclusive, both observations seem to favor the hypothesis that in NGC 520 one is viewing two galaxies in close tidal interaction.
