UBV photoelectric magnitudes of 183 stars and UBV photographic magnitudes of 517 stars in the region of the southern open cluster NGC 3532 are presented. A distance modulus of 8m.45 ± 0m.27, which corresponds to a distance of 490 pc ± 50 pc, and an age of 2 × 108 years are derived for this cluster. A study of the distribution of the observed stars has also been performed which covers a region of about 1° × 1°. A strong concentration of the brightest stars in the inner region of the cluster is verified. The number of cluster members in the studied region and in the range 7 ≤ V ≤ 13.5 is estimated to be about 670. In correspondence to the stellar masses in that range and allowing for the mass supplied by the fainter members, a minimum total cluster mass of about 2 000 Msun is estimated.
