The present status of empirical charge transfer rate coefficients is reviewed and some astrophysical consequences of the reaction: O(plus 2) plus H yields O(plus) plus H(plus) are discussed. In particular, photoionization models with regard to the planetary nebula NGC 7662, the ring nebula NGC 6720, and the Seyfert galaxy NGC 3516 are considered. It is pointed out that, in view of the abundance of helium, the intensity of the 12.8 mu Ne II forbidden line in NGC 7027 can be explained if the reaction: Ne(plus 2) plus He yields Ne(plus) plus He(plus) proceeds rapidly at thermal energies.
