Consideration is given to the magnetic structures and the corresponding acceleration effects in the cometary ion tails. It is found that the J times B Lorentz force of the reconnected field lines may produce an acceleration of about 10-20 cm/s in the inner part of the ion tails but a far larger acceleration in the ion rays near the head, or in the outer part of the tails.
