We discuss the distribution of stars along the red giant branches of galactic clusters in connection with the suggested evidence for a non canonical evolution of stellar structures. We find that observational data appear in good agreement with updated canonical evolutionary computations, disproving the need for the efficiency of core overshooting mechanisms.
