Numerical computations of the dynamics of interacting binary star systems which are of relevance to the study of X-ray stars are presented. One star (the compact star) is taken to be a mass point, the other a more massive primary star with a simulated atmosphere. It is concluded that test mass particles on the surface of the primary star form a time-dependent Roche lobe for highly eccentric orbits, provided that the periastron distance is less than about two stellar radii of the primary star and the mass ratio is greater than about 0.067. These conclusions are important for any model which attempts to explain the observations of Circinus X-1.
