Novel data are presented on the isotope fractionation and rate of mass loss of CAIB composition melts at 1400 C and 1 bar total pressure of gas, with an oxygen fugacity corresponding to solar gas. The two primary effects of such highly reducing conditions are that the rate of mass loss is increased by about three orders of magnitude relative to free evaporation, and there is no detectable fractionation of the Mg isotopes.
