The present analysis of the Galileo Mission's Near Infrared Spectrometer reflectance spectra for the icy Galilean satellites (Callisto, Ganymede, Europa) emphasizes their interpretation with a view to determining the presence and identity of any nonice components of the surface. While water ice is present in most spectra, maps of nonice band strengths show a correlation of band strength with geologic features; this encompasses both fresh craters and ring structures around older craters.
