Viking Orbiter images of the Reull Vallis show a complex scene that includes horizontal rock strata exposed in the valley walls, parallel remnants of plains mantle units and an apparently anomalous reentrant structure which we call the Pomona Vallis. These features reveal an intricate history, including a large sheet flood, possibly originating from the Pomona Vallis, which stripped and scoured Reull Vallis and its surroundings.
