Excess emission, above that expected from extrapolations at submm wavelengths, has been confirmed in a number of objects from WMAP and CBI data at mm and centimetre wavelengths. This emission component is very poorly understood, but the fact that its distribution correlates better with the IRAS mid-infrared 12 and 25um emission than with the far-infrared emission suggests that it may be related to very small grain or PAH emission. Casassus et al (2006) and Finkbeiner (2004) find good fits with models of rapidly-spinning very small grains, but emission from hydrogenated fulleranes has also been invoked (Iglesias-Groth 2006). We propose to map the distribution of 20GHz emission using the Mopra antenna to investigate the nature of the mm/centimetre at higher spatial and spectral resolution than has been achieved previously. We will search for molecular line and band emission to quantify the contribution from individual molecular transitions and to search for band structures that could arise from some candidate species. Understanding the nature of this emission is important because it must be accounted for correctly in extracting the CMB signal from observed flux maps, as well as being a new component of the ISM
