Recent sensitive VLA monitoring of Centaurus A has revealed detailed information about the motions of components in the jet on scales of hundreds of pc (Hardcastle et al 1993). Some components have rapid motions, similar to apparent motions observed in the sub-pc-scales jet (Tingay et al. 2001, 1998), and appear to be connected to the bulk flow of material in the jet. Other components appear stationary and have been suggested to be standing shocks in the jet due to collisions with molecular clouds or high mass loss stars. We wish to use the LBA at 2.3 GHz to obtain wide-field images of these jet components with angular resolution 10 times better than the VLA images, to test the suggestion that such collisions can explain these stationary jet components. We will also search for weak supernova remnants obscured by the dust lane of the galaxy.
