A photogeologic analysis and mapping of Magellan images of the Venera 8 landing site show that the geologic units of this area, and their relative sequence in time, are largely those suggested by the regional and global stratigraphy model of Basilevsky et al. (1997). It is suggested that the material sampled by Venera 8 represents either shield plains of amoeboid plains.
