High mass resolution isotopic imaging is presently used to locate rare types of presolar SiC in grains from the Murchison SiC fraction KJG; 15 type X and 27 type Y grains have thus been obtained. It is judged that Y grains come from different stars with a wide range of metallicities. It is likely that the asymptotic giant branch stars that produced the Y grains either underwent a larger number of thermal pulses or lost a large portion of their envelopes during dredge-up.
