The scenario for AGN outflows in which radiation pressure on spectral lines drives a wind from an accretion disk around a black hole gains support from observations and detailed numerical calculations. In this paper, I summarize the essential concepts underpinning models of radiation-driven outflows from AGN. To illustrate how the radiation force can explain launching and acceleration of a disk wind, I will present and discuss the results of axisymmetric time-dependent hydrodynamic calculations. In particular, I will discuss the effect of a radiation-driven disk wind on the X-ray flux.
