Scientific paper

From the end of Ming to the beginning of Qing China many Western scientific books were translated into Chinese by Jesuit missionaries with cooperation of Chinese intellectuals. The Tokugawa government began to permit the importation of them as an exception to the Shogunate's seclusion policy in 1720.
