The discovery of grooves in Galileo high-resolution (54 m/pixel) images of Gaspra is reported. The principal characteristics of Gaspra grooves are described, and it is suggested that the grooves most likely represent fractures modified by the inward drainage of regolith. If so, minimum regolith depths of 30-200 m are implied. The presence of grooves is consistent with other indications that Gaspra has undergone a violent collisional history.
