We propose to observe the young (7-10 Myr) open cluster recently discovered around the B1Vpe star 25 Orionis. We will obtain EPIC imaging and spectra of the cluster, to investigate the X-ray properties of pre-main sequence stars at a crucial age in stellar evolution, and to search for new cluster members. The derived properties will be compared with those of the younger sigma Ori and lambda Ori clusters, and with other star-forming regions and open clusters of different ages, to investigate the effects of age and of the ambient environment on pre-main sequence coronal activity.
