Chandra and XMM provide an excellent data set that defines the X-ray gas content of nearby early-type galaxies. This gas evolves with time, yet one model predicts that younger galaxies are more X-ray luminous while another model predicts the opposite. The evolution can be studied by observing younger early-type galaxies, but all of the local L* ellipticals are old, typically 10 Gyr. Fortunately, there are early-type galaxies with a major epoch of star formation in the past Gyr, the E+A galaxies. We propose to study the nearest E+A galaxies, a sample of 4 in the outskirts of the Coma cluster (two are know X-ray sources). These observations will determine the Lx from the gas, discriminating between the models and giving us insights into galaxy evolution.
