The classification criteria for lambda Boo stars are briefly summarized and observations of HD 142994 presented, which indicate a variability with a period of approximately 4 hours and an amplitude of 0.06 mag in Stroemgren b. The significance of detecting pulsating lambda Boo stars is discussed, and the pulsating lambda Boo stars which are known up to now, or are being suspected to pulsate, are reviewed.
