A high-quality white-light photograph of an umbra of a large complex spot was analyzed. Digital image processing methods were used. The extensively inhomogeneous structure of the umbra, related to the fast dynamics of development, displays many features (dark cores, bright dots, light bridge, etc.), intensities and temperatures which were studied in detail. In the dark cores a relatively low temperature was obtained. A relation between the intensity of the individual bright umbral dots and their dark surroundings was found.
