An account is given of ESA's Hipparchos mission, with attention to the preparation of its Input Catalog and the Catalog's current contents of different types of stars. Tabulations are presented for V-magnitude vs distance distribution for OB stars, A0-A5 stars, A6-F0 stars, and F1-F8 stars, as well as stars from Gliese's (1969) catalog, and the number of red dwarf, variable, and known-orbit binary stars per magnitude range.
