The nature of infrared variability of the eclipsing symbiotic star CI Cyg is considered. From the analysis of observations of 1978 - 1986, it follows that the observed variability of CI Cyg in the range 1.25 - 2.2 μm is explained by a joint effect connected with the ellipticity of the cool component in the system CI Cyg and its intrinsic variability with the period of 37d.2. From the amplitude of variations of the J brightness, due to ellipticity of the cool component, the mass ratio in the system CI Cyg is estimated: Mh/Mc ≡ 0.045.
