Observations of the X-ray pulsar are performed with the High Energy X-ray Experiment to examine the flux levels and changes in the spectral shape. The observational data are employed to examine the phase-averaged spectrum, which fit a thermal bremsstrahlung model and a Suniaev-Titarchuk comptonization model. The mean pulse profiles for two observations are found to be different, but the measured spectra during the high state of GX 1 + 4 in 1978 are not significantly different from those observed in the present study.
