A model of a galaxy cluster consisting of intracluster gas and massive neutrino dark matter is proposed. By fitting the X-ray surface brightness calculated from the model to that measured by ROSAT, the authors infer the density distribution and velocity dispersion of intracluster gas and neutrinos, respectively. Subsequently, phase space arguments are used to derive a lower limit on the neutrino mass. For Coma, this lower limit is concluded to be ≡2.5 eV, which lies about 30% below the limit of ≡3.6 eV inferred by Tremaine and Gunn (1979).
