Universe: Density Fluctuations, X-Ray Sources: Clustering, X-Ray Background
Scientific paper
The authors have investigated the clustering of X-ray sources by performing a fluctuation analysis on the intensity of the X-ray background (XRB), as measured in 80 high galactic latitude ROSAT pointed observations after source subtraction. The P(D) analysis of residual XRB intensities in arcmin scales shows that an excess variance of ΔIclus = 0.0015±0.002 cts s-1beam-1 is required to fit the observed P(D). The implied value of ΔI/I is 0.06±0.08. Using expressions derived in this work, the upper limit obtained on the excess variance is used to place constraints on the density fluctuations in the Universe: δρ/ρ < 1 in scales of ≡10 h-1Mpc.
