Active Galactic Nuclei: X-Ray Luminosities

Scientific paper

A sample of 198 serendipitous soft X-ray selected active galactic nuclei (AGN) from the ROSAT International X-ray Optical Survey (RIXOS), which has a high proportion of optical identifications (93%), is used in combination with the EMSS, to investigate the evolution and X-ray luminosity function of AGN. The authors find the evolution of AGN with redshift to be consistent with pure luminosity evolution models in which little or no evolution takes place at high redshifts (z > 1.8). They confirm that their survey is consistent with no evolution at high redshifts, using a model independent test.
