At any wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum, the sky is not dark between the stars (or other objects). A diffuse component - a background - is present, very difficult to detect for various reasons: its low level, the parasit contributions of different phenomena and the difficulty of absolute calibrations of the detectors. In this introductive talk, the author will concentrate of the two spectral domains of greatest cosmological interest: the millimetric, with the Cosmic Microwave Background and the X-ray, with the possible emission from intergalactic gas.
