The X-ray properties of an optically flux selected sample of elliptical and spiral galaxies are compared using archive ROSAT PSPC data. The authors aim to compare the properties of normal and interacting galaxies. They define the properties of normal galaxies in the ROSAT band (0.1-2.4 keV). Einstein data showed the X-ray to optical luminosity trend for elliptical galaxies is steeper than that seen for spirals (Fabbiano et al. 1992). Kim et al. 1992 assumed single component models for ellipticals (kT ≡ 1 keV) and spirals (kT ≡ 3 keV). The authors find more complex spectra are required in most cases, if solar abundances are assumed. They also find spirals galaxies have softer spectra than previously assumed.
