High-Velocity Clouds: X Rays
Scientific paper
The authors review the recent arguments that high-velocity clouds (HVCs) are physically associated with soft X-ray emission. The analysis of ROSAT PSPC and H I 21 cm line data reveal several independent indications that soft X-ray emission originates close to the HVC rims. This is the first firm large scale detection of HVCs in emission since their discovery in the H I 21 cm line radiation by Muller et al. in 1963.
