Supernova Remnants: X Rays

Scientific paper

A three-degree long X-ray arc has been discovered in the ROSAT all-sky survey. The X-ray arc appears as a section of a ring of three-degree radius, convex towards north. The X-ray arc has a counterpart at radio frequencies and in the infrared. The IRAS maps indicate that the arc is complemented to a full ring. Hα and H I arcs appear along the north of the X-ray arc and their morphology suggests an association with the ring. The kinematic distance of the H I emission region is around 1 kpc implying a radius of the ring of 50 pc. The authors propose a supernova remnant expanding in a stellar wind cavity to explain the observations.
