Data were obtained with the VLA for a complete, optically selected sample of quasars with B < 18.25. Seven of 22 quasars were detected to a limit of 150 μJy at 6 cm. The distribution of the spectral index αro, which measures the ratio of the flux densities at 6 cm and 2500 Å, is derived and found to have no detectable correlation with optical luminosity or redshift when compared to brighter samples. Combining available data for optically selected quasars indicates that the αro distribution shows several features: two steep regions of the distribution are connected with a shallow shoulder between αro < 0.1 and 0.5. Quasars with αro > 0.5 dominate bright radio surveys, whereas quasars with αro < 0.1 dominate optical surveys.
