This issue of A&A proudly features eleven articles describing the first
results obtained at ESO with the AMBER focal instrument of the VLT
Interferometer, currently the world's largest optical interferometer.
These articles illustrate both the potential for scientific breakthrough of
spectral resolution when combined with long baseline interferometry and the observational and data processing methods specific to AMBER.
