The observational properties of a sample of C II and S II layers within neutral interfaces separating hot ionised regions and cold molecular clouds, for which the data have been published elsewhere, are summarised and discussed. Observational trends are found (for the first time) between the depth and the electron density within the C II and S II layers, and also between the depth and the thermal pressure within the C II and S II layers. A pressure equilibrium is confirmed here, between the pressure of the associated H II regions and the pressure of the C II and S II layers. The electron densities in the C II and S II layers are found here to be directly propertional to the electron density in the associated H II regions.
