The development of flare kernels during a flash phase and the relationship between these kernels and the features in magnetograms and in maps of the longitudinal electric current are investigated. The high-resolution H-alpha off-band filtergrams for a flare of importance 1B/M1 occurring in the active region AR2372 on April 6, 1980 are used together with simultaneous vector magnetograms. The initial flare consists of 5 kernels which first appeared at 20:53 UT. The magnetic configuration was highly sheared before and during the flare.
