The problem of backscattering of radiation from a sphere situated above an emitting plane is considered. Two analytic estimates of this backscattering are given, one applicable for an optically thin sphere and the other applicable for an optically thick sphere. However, both results are robust with respect to the optical size of the sphere. Numerical results are given to compare the two approaches.
