Several critical statements which have been made about the authors' work on the Malmquist bias in the Tully-Fisher relation are examined; they are shown to be unjustified and to rely on a misconception of the bias. It is emphasized that photometric distances such as those obtained from the TF relation are affected by a strong bias; properties of galaxies, when they are established from a sample whose distances are affected by a bias, are a priori suspected to be influenced by the bias and should not be taken as instrinsic ones. Both field and cluster samples, when restricted to unbiased data, lead to H0= 72±3 km s-1Mpc-1, with the primary calibration of de Vaucouleurs.
