The authors show on the basis of two dimensional numerical simulations that a Kolmogorov-type spectrum and a sizeable compressibility with rms Mach numbers close to unity are compatible, thus relieving the possibility that the scaling laws observed in a variety of molecular clouds can have classical turbulent interpretation. In these calculations a highly filamentary structure develops, visible both in density and vorticity which seems compatible with fine resolution observations in molecular clouds. Moreover, the authors recall that several inertial ranges due to different instabilities occurring at well separated scales can coexist independently.
