Digital speckle-masking observations of R 136 a with the AIT-MCP-speckle camera allowed a quasi-diffraction-limited reconstruction of its core. The object belongs to the star cluster R 136 in the center of the 30 Doradus Nebula, one of the most luminous H II regions in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The results confirm that R 136 a is a dense star cluster with at least 5 stars embedded within a diameter of 1arcsec. The reconstructed image agrees very well with the earlier results by Weigelt and Baier (1985).
