The 100-m radio telescope at Effelsberg was used to map the high-galactic-latitude (b = - 36.7 deg) dark nebula Lynds 1642 in the 21-cm H I line. In the central part of L 1642, the radial velocity of the H I line is in good agreement with different molecular line velocities of L 1642 in the range of 0 to 1.0 km/s. The line width map of H I reveals an increase from 2.5 to 2.9 km/s over a small area on the 'bright side' of L 1642.
