It is shown that the cold dense condensations originating at a nonlinear stage of thermal instability may be very flat in shape. This resembles the formation of Zeldovich's pancakes during the development of a long-wave gravitational instability. During the formation of a condensation in the interstellar medium, the density of the gas increases by a factor of 100.
