The beam-foil technique has been used to determine experimental oscillator strengths for the resonance transitions from the 3s3p2 2S, 2P, and 3s24s 2S terms in S IV. Accurate lifetimes for these terms are obtained. The results are 0.25±0.01 ns for 3p2 2S, 0.076±0.01 ns for 3p2 2P, and 0.16±0.01 ns for 4s 2S. Significant discrepancies with recent theoretical calculations are observed.
